Focus on:
Concentration means controlling oneself, or making an effort on a mental level.
When you work, just work; when you play, just play. Don't mix the two.
Cell phones, lack of sleep, laziness, inactivity are destroyers of our productivity and efficiency.
Multitasking reduces our cognitive function.
Self-discipline means using our minds to make decisions, and no matter what happens, we do that. You just remove "should" from your life and add "must".
How many times have we had to focus on an important task but couldn't concentrate? I can understand how frustrating this is. With that in mind, I'm going to share 20 great tips for you to practice that can effectively improve your concentration level.
Everyone wants to focus and get more done in less time. But we know that distraction happens almost everywhere. We carry a distraction with us everywhere: our cell phone. Since the main problem is attention, then we need to start small and improve our attention level.
What is "focus"?
Concentration means controlling oneself, or the effort made on a spiritual level. The following quote is a good illustration of what attention is.
When you work, just work.
When you play, just play.
Don't mix the two.
Here are 10 tips for improving concentration.
1. Sleep
The first tip is to make sure you get enough sleep. Getting enough sleep will reset your sleep cycle, which will effectively promote improved focus.
As I mentioned before, in such a digital world, almost everyone spends a lot of time on the screens of various electronic gadgets. Research has shown that light from digital screens stimulates the retina and blocks the secretion of melatonin, which promotes sleep in the brain. So, try not to stare at the screen all the time before going to bed to reduce the risk of blue light stimulation.
2. Rest
When we focus on one thing for a long time, our attention level slowly decreases. It may be counterintuitive, but taking a short break of 5-10 minutes will help us restore our energy levels so we can focus. I recommend everyone try the Pomodoro Technique to improve your focus.
A few years ago, I started using the Pomodoro Technique (the Pomodoro Technique, a time management method founded by Francesco Cirillo in the 1980s.): Focus for 25 minutes, then rest for 5 minutes. Now I can easily concentrate for at least 50 minutes and then rest for 10 minutes. During breaks, I definitely stand up, take a walk, stretch, listen to music or do long breathing exercises. After a break, you'll be more focused on your tasks.
3. Keep practicing
Forming new habits or learning new things doesn't happen overnight. Even Cristiano Ronaldo relies on a lot of fitness to stay in shape and increase his concentration level.
Focus on the things that matter and figure out why you didn't take certain responsibilities or keep going. The most important thing to do now is to focus your attention on the most important things.
4. Set priorities
I think it's hard to find a job that I totally love. Some tasks you don't enjoy doing, then I suggest putting the tasks you don't want to do first thing in the morning before you run out of motivation.
When I don't like doing something, I prioritize doing it when I have the most energy and the easiest time to focus.
5. Spend time with nature
You might be surprised to know why people put some greenery in an office building or office. Research shows that plants can help us focus. Plants also help improve air quality. I recommend that if you live near a park, be sure to make the most of your contact with nature and go for a walk or exercise in the park.
6. Train the brain like a muscle
In most movies, you may remember that the protagonist is always playing some kind of puzzle game, especially in military movies: chess, sudoku, puzzles, etc.
Research has shown that brain-stimulating games like jigsaw puzzles can help the brain make new neuronal connections that can help us improve our efficiency and focus.
7. The most important thing, only one
I have read a book called One Thing by Gary Keller. In this book he explains that to be successful in life, you have to focus on one thing. I associate this concept of "one thing" with attention, while "one thing" also means not multitasking and juggling multiple tasks at the same time. In life, we don't need to do countless things to be successful.
When you narrow down the target as much as possible, you're staring at one thing, and that's the point.
-- Gary Keller
8. Meditation
Meditation has many benefits, and improving concentration is just one of them. The meditation I'm talking about is just sitting and closing your eyes. To improve my concentration level, I do deep breathing exercises in the morning or around 2pm, both times when my concentration level is on a downward trend. We can quickly improve our concentration by focusing on deep breathing.
9. Build your own self-discipline system
Self-discipline is one of the first traits we have to be successful in life. Self-discipline means using our minds to make decisions, and no matter what happens, we do that. You just remove "should" from your life and add "must".
For example, when I say you should hit the gym tonight, it can easily be replaced by "must". Self-discipline will help you eliminate distractions and stop you from becoming a slob.
10. Listen to music
Research shows that music has therapeutic effects on our brains. It must be emphasized that not all music is the same, light music may help us focus, but club music is distracting.
Now you can easily improve your concentration level by playing classical music while studying or working, or playing the sound of running water on your YouTube channel. Research suggests that classical music may help improve concentration.
